GLENDALE, AZ (CelebrityAccess) – The Foo Fighters are fighting the unauthorized use of their song “My Hero” at a recent rally for Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in Glendale, AZ.
The song was played after Trump introduced Kennedy, who had announced that he was suspending his presidential campaign to support Trump’s bid. The Foo Fighters quickly clarified on social media that they did not approve of the song’s use, responding with a firm “No” when asked on X (formerly Twitter) and reinforcing their stance with a clear message to their followers.
A representative for the band confirmed to USA TODAY that the Trump campaign did not request permission to use the track, and if they had, the band would have denied the request. “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it.” The representative also stated that any royalties generated from the song’s use at the rally would be donated to Vice President Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign.
The Trump campaign said it had permission to play the song. “We have a license to play the song,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in an email to The Hill. Cheung also took to the social platform X to dispute the claim.
“It’s Times Like These facts matter, don’t be a Pretender. @foofighters,” he wrote, referring to two other songs by the band.
The band is the latest in a series of artists to publicly denounce the Trump campaign’s use of their music without permission. Earlier this month, Celine Dion’s team expressed disapproval over the unauthorized use of “My Heart Will Go On” at a Trump rally in Montana, and the family of Isaac Hayes threatened legal action after Trump’s campaign used Hayes’ song “Hold On, I’m Comin’” at another event.
