After years of rumors, the PlayStation 5 Pro has officially been announced by Sony, and it’s arriving in less than two months. And while Sony’s mid-generation console update is a powerful machine, the social media reaction to its $700 price tag has been less than enthusiastic so far.
One of the most common complaints among gamers is that neither the disc drive nor the vertical stand are included with the PS5 Pro.
What offends me most about the PS5 Pro is the fact it has a premium price but doesn’t feel like a premium product.

Another drawback for fans is that only a select number of games are currently slated to feature PS5 Pro enhancements.
So no disc drive (huge red flag), no “vertical stand included”, 4 updated features and NO new games announced for £700? What have they been smoking? This screams of let’s cut as many costs as possible and still charge them the same as if we didn’t. Warra joke😭

If you release a new console, you should also release new games specifically designed for that new console to give people a reason to want the new console. Why would I want to buy a new console for $700 if there are no new games to show off what the new console can do?

Others have noted that the price of the PS4 Pro didn’t have the same sticker shock. And the PS4 Pro didn’t exclude the disc drive.
Even the PS4 Pro wasn’t that much. For $700, you’re just buying the Digital Edition PS5 for “barely a difference in graphics” and extra storage. Add the drive cost, it would be almost $800. Sony needs to sit in the corner to think clearly about what they’ve done.

One gamer brought up a nearly forgotten console from the ’90s that was also going for $700 at the time. It’s not adjusted for inflation, of course.
Say, remember that time the 3DO company was expecting people to buy their console for $700 in 1993? 30 years later, Sony is doing the exact same thing for the PS4 now.

If there are any positive reactions to PS5 Pro’s $700 price tag, then we haven’t seen them yet. But the real test of whether gamers are willing to pay that much will be when we see how many PS5 Pros are sold when it launches on November 7.
