In celebration of the puzzle game’s 40th anniversary, Digital Eclipse has unveiled Tetris Forever, a new collection coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later this year. The game was part of today’s Nintendo Direct for August 2024.
Tetris Forever will include 15 games from the franchise’s past, such as the 1988 Famicom version of Tetris as well as Tetris Battle Gaiden–previously unreleased in the West. Digital Eclipse also highlighted Super Bombliss as part of the collection on its website, along with a recreation of the original Electronika 60 computer’s Tetris. Additionally, there will be a new multiplayer mode for the collection called Tetris Time Warp. This will see people battling it out in the puzzle game as the gameplay switches between different iterations of Tetris over the years.
As part of Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master Series, Tetris Forever will also feature over an hour of documentary videos. This will provide people with a better look inside the relationship between Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov and The Tetris Company founder Henk Rogers.
The Tetris love won’t stop there, either. Nintendo added that the NES version of Tetris will hit Nintendo Switch Online sometime this winter for subscribers. Plus, there will be a Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event happening this winter as well.
