Marvel Can’t Make The Same Wolverine Mistake Again

In the first few X-Men films, it made sense to give Wolverine more of the focus since he was one of the most well-known and popular members of the group. However, even by the second movie, characters like Nightcrawler had fans buzzing and wanting to see more of a focus on other heroes too. Unfortunately, over time the movies became less about the X-Men and more just Wolverine and friends, something Marvel cannot afford to do.

The problem really came to a head with 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Logan’s first live-action solo outing. Most fans would agree this is the worst live-action X-Men property to date, and yet it still spawned two more sequels. Fox was so convinced Wolverine was the money maker that they were beyond reluctant to pivot to one of the other popular Marvel characters they had the rights to at that time.
