One of actor Ewan McGregor’s most famous roles is that of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but will he ever get a chance to play the part again following the Obi-Wan TV show? We don’t know, but McGregor said in a new interview that he believes there are more Obi-Wan stories to be told and hopes to come back one day.
“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” he told Variety. “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
Hayden Christensen, who played Darth Vader opposite McGregor on the TV show, spoke to the site as well and said he’s also keen to come back.
“If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character,” he said. “Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan–he’s just so good at it.”
Earlier this year, McGregor said he hopes to make a second season of the Obi-Wan TV show, but wasn’t sure if it would ever happen. In 2023, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said Obi-Wan Season 2 was not in “active development” at the time. She said there is “always the possibility” of a sophomore season being made, going on to say that McGregor “really wants to do another.”
Before the Obi-Wan show, McGregor played a young Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel movies, becoming the second actor to play the part after Alec Guinness.
While Obi-Wan Season 2 might not happen soon, or ever, another fan-favorite Star Wars show, Andor, is set to come back in 2025. There are also multiple Star Wars movies in the works, including one that brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey.
